Forensic Patterning: recreating techniques of the past for students in the present

Most of Elliot’s art originates with curiosity for a historical object: how it is constructed, how to deconstruct it, and how to reconstruct it for a contemporary audience. From translating 19th century puzzle purse valentines into quilted embroidery to reverse engineering a pair of early 20th century mittens and rewriting the colorwork text, Elliot Rockart is constantly taking their love of history and teaching textile art students to craft their own versions of iconic pieces of material culture.
